Nebraska Cottage Phase I
The Nebraska Cottage is a work that stems from a larger project of personal interest called "Ecologies" that serves as a research platform into the ecology of human space. The term ecology, chosen because of its etymology and original connection to the Greek word oikos or house. A word that in our contemporary period functions as a labeling term for the scientific study of the relationship of living organisms to each other and their surroundings. For the project "Ecologies" a number of works have been completed that at their core consider the nature of relationships within a space of operation. The work Nebraska Cottage serves as both a space for creative writing and poetic investigation for artist working at the Art Farm, an artist residency site-based location for artist production located in Marquette Nebraska. The vernacular structure is in keeping with its space of origination, the isolated space of the mid western prairie serves as a place for artistic development and creative practices. The work by design carries within its space a place for contemplation and reflection. Surrounded by a sea of grass whose wave like features over time erase all those who stand in its path. Constructed of locally available resources and in keeping with local traditions to address local needs and circumstances the cottage serves, as needed.
