Semiosis
Semiosis deals with one of western culture’s most potent and pervasive symbol, the cruciform. As an installation the work presents a poetic revilement, through sound and imagery, of the meaning of that image. Central to the work’s theme is the image’s transformation over time as the result of various cultural and individual responses. These meanings are often so integrated into everyday western life that they disappear into the fabric of cultural space. Semiosis is therefore meant to recontextualize this symbol so that the meanings ascribed to it are made visible. This work is a collaborative effort with sound artist, and composer Andrew Stoltz and text and visual artist, Lane Cooper. I am responsible for the concept and the physical production and design of the installation.
